Another problem with running as standard windows user

Post by Bikr » Sat Jul 24, 2010 2:53 pm

I'm logged into Windows 7 with a standard user account (not administrator) and then run Ace Utilities using the "Run as Administrator" command. This works for most utilities, but the problem is, Cookie Manager is empty, since I don't run my browsers as Administrator.

If I want to clean my cookies I have to run Ace Utilities as a standard user, and ignore the warning that it should be run as administrator. Then when I go to Cookie Manager, all my protected cookies are there.

So it seems there are some tools that really should be run as Administrator, and others that really don't need it. It would be nice if each individual utility could invoke the UAC elevated credentials dialog if they need it or not, versus just warning on launch of Ace Utilities that administrator rights are recommended.

Running as the least privileged user is becoming a security best-practice so I have a feeling this user scenario will become more common and should be better supported by AU:
