vanishing au.exe in Ace Utilities folder

As with my registered version 3.2.0.4043, the latest version of au.exe does the following: When I click on the desktop icon to run AU, the icon vanishes, au.exe in the folder also vanishes. As a result, I can never upgrade automatically via the program. In order to get AU to work, I changed the name au.exe to auu.exe and fixed the properties of the desktop icon to correspond. Now, AU will start and run automatically.
Why do I have to make this change?

PS, Before installing the latest version, I used Control Panel to remove the previous version.

we are at loss to explain this, we have not seen this.

May be some app like antiSpyware or antivirus you have is deleting this file thinking it is a virus ?
