Cean Up is not Exactly Cleaning

Hi,
I use Ace Utilities and like it a lot. However, when I use the clean up function, then afterwards check my hard disk, I still find Outlook newsreader pages, IE cached web pages, and AOL chats. How do I specifically tell Ace Utilities to erase this information as well?

In 'Erase Your History' tool, go to the 'Internet Explorer/MSN' section and check if relevant options to delete IE cache and the same are checked or not. By default, some of these options are left unselected.

For AOL chat logs, go to the 'Plugins' section, find the AOL chat log entry, and tick mark it.

Note that Ace Utilities does not clean recent lists/history details of 'ALL' known programs. It can only handle the list of programs that are included via plugins. The plugins list will be updated from time to time.

Aneesh, thanks for the note. I'm still having several issues here. I'll start with the IE cache. I've selected the options you've mentioned - run the tool - and I'm still seeing cached web pages (via Google desktop search). I'm sure I'm doing something wrong - not sure what it is.

To delete IE history, select the following options from 'Internet Explorer/MSN' tab of 'Erase history tool'

1) Delete locked URL cache
2) Clear typed URLs
3) Clear browser history
4) Delete cache
5) Delete cookies

After executing the tool, reboot the PC. This will clear your IE history.

The 'Google desktop search' has its own cache folder. Once Google DS indexes an entry, it gets added onto the google database on your computer typically to 'drivename:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Google Desktop Search'. This means even if you successfully delete your web history via Ace Utilities, a cached-copy remains in Google DS folder. To delete such an indexed item, you have to go to the Google DS interface and remove the entry through it.

Ace Utilities does not delete cache/snapshots created by Google desktop search.

I hope this clarifies some of the doubts.

Thanks for the note. You've answered my issue exactly. It's been Google Desktop Search all along. Ace has been cleaning all the files

, but of course Google has been indexing at the same time. I've removed the desktop search tool and everything is running perfectly. Many thanks for your time and trouble.

It's good to know that your doubt got cleared.

A suggestion: Instead of removing Google Desktop Search, you can change its preferences to make it not cache & index web history. This way, your web history won't be maintained while you can use the indexing feature of GDS to catalog other files on your computer.

Note that GDS cache folder size grows over time slowly eating up hard disk space.

I don't know a lot about the recent ver. of Google toolbar.
In the beta versions I had several issues along the lines of what you speak of here.
I finally got tired of messin with the "GooBar" and removed it..
I went to the Google search page (http://www.google.com) and placed it in my Favorites..
Then I made a shortcut key(CTRL+ALT+G)..>right click on the Google shortcut,in Favorites/Properties/cursor in shortcut line and type a letter..Like "G"
Now I hit the combo keys and "poof" there's a Google search page..I seem to have access to all the Google features which I use at hand..
It's the only way I am able to answer a question about anything..
