SOMEBODY HELP IF YOU CAN!!!!

Post by pantomime_horse » Fri Nov 12, 2004 4:35 am

This is not Ace problem, but all of a sudden for some reason System Restore is intermittently deleting all my restore points!!. I looked in the Event Viewer and find the following msg.:
"The System restore filter encountered the unexpected error '0XC0000056' while processing the file "shell32.dll.new" on vol 'harddisk vol 1. It has stopped monitoring the volume".

I did a search on entire hard drive "C" and did not find a file by this name, only several "shell32.dll" 's, one "shell32.dll.000", and one "shell32.DL".

I have done nothing of which I am aware that would cause this.

I checked Microsoft KB but nothing there.

Anybody got any ideas?
HELP HELP!!!

Do you have Real Player installed ? I read somewhere that it happens after you play Real Audio. Try installing the latest version.

I downloaded real player and installed, but I have not used that in 2-3 yrs.
Yes I installed SP2 a couple of months ago.

Since you can't use the Help and Support program on your PC use the following site to do it: And make sure you click on "Email request" http://support.microsoft.com/oas/defaul ... rid=185522

Where you purchased the PC from should have nothing to do with your having problems with Windows XP Pro??? I purchased my PC from HP but I've still gotten help from MS when I was getting "The Blue Screen of Death"! And they responded and told me why I was getting it too after giving them the error messages. I don't understand why they told you that.

Yes you are absolutely right, should have no effect on service, but it does. When I select e-mail support and type in prod. id#, the screen returns and says gateway sold me the computer and to contact them!!
There is a for fee service available, but I can't afford that.

Hi

Try uninstalling Real Player. (It might have added some entry to the startup list)

After that, stop and resume system restore service. (note, all your restore points will be deleted if you do this). To stop and resume,

Right click my computer - properties. Click System restore and check 'Turn off on all drives'. Click Ok and reboot - that will clear out everything.
Then turn on System Restore again, reboot once moreand make a manual point.

I have already uninstalled RealPlayer and ran Ace reg clean to get rid of all RP entries. I am monitoring the event viewer for any further problems.

Thanks

Em****a
If you run a "System Cleanup" ,with XP, I think it deletes all but the latest R.P.
If,somehow, there was a scheduled cleanup maybe this could explain it..
Maybe something you can check out easily..
