I'm sure this idea has been mentioned before since you already have an option to permanently delete files.

I was curious, how hard would it be to write a file recovery program for Ace Utilities? One that would recover the files accidentally delete through windows explorer.

As you well know this would build up quite a bit of files which takes away from hard drive free space. I have this particular feature in "Norton's SystemWorks 2003 Pro" where it saves all files deleted from the recyle bin. And I had to turn it OFF simply because before I knew it the size of those files stored in this feature got to be huge!

I have used NU/NSW before and you simply periodically empty the Norton Recycle bin and the Windows recycle bin (I do this just before I defrag my hard drive 1-2x per month)

I agree that having an undelete feature would be nice - for immdiate recovery of deleted files. Files aren't immediately deleted anyway. If you aren't adding/deleting/ changing a lot of files, you could undelete a file days to weeks later IF it didn't get overwritten. Ace could offer that level of undelete or decide to implement a Norton's protected type of undelete. It is also possible to do that with a cap on the drive space to allocate for the deleted files (to prevent what you encountered with recycle bin bloat).

Also, many other "all in one" utils include this feature.

I understand what you're saying, but too many utilities in one application will cause it to lose it's IDENTITY.

I must say that I agree with this statement made by Inray

"Including such a functionality into AceUtils, will make it just another bloated garbageware, like so many others.
I believe Ace should remain the snappy, light maintenance utility we all liked."
