Registry backup before compactor/Restore Point?

Hello, I have an OEM operating system (Windows XP). If I create a System Restore Point before I run the Registry Compactor, is that adequate?

Although you shouldn't encounter any problem, yes that would be adequate. Please make sure that you are running the latest version of the program.
