Project AU 5.3

Post by uzi69 » Thu Apr 01, 2010 6:04 pm

I know that au 5.2 is just released, and new release will be somewhere at the end of this year
This are only improving suggestions for one of the future releases :)

1 Windows update backup
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
Can you make something in order to delete backup files?
Couple months of update, 300mb of backup files.

2 Junk cleaner is finding and deleting some tureg_old files
Path locations which are not included in search:
C:\Boot\BCD_tureg_old
C:\Windows\System32\config\DEFAULT_tureg_old
C:\Users\uzi69\NTUSER.DAT_tureg_old
C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\NTUSER.DAT_tureg_old
C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\NTUSER.DAT_tureg_old
C:\Windows\System32\config\SAM_tureg_old
C:\Windows\System32\config\SECURITY_tureg_old
C:\Windows\System32\config\SOFTWARE_tureg_old
C:\Windows\System32\config\SYSTEM_tureg_old
C:\Users\uzi69\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\USRCLASS.DAT_tureg_old

.chk (scan disk recovered file)
C:\Users\Nikola\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\edb.chk
C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking\b8d7c0809b41381f1fc51832db2b199c31f313ba.HomeGroupClassifier\83afc3537b590352af46cfc16064cd4c\grouping\edb.chk
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs\edb.chk
C:\Windows\System32\catroot2\edb.chk
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\freebl3.chk
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\freebl3.chk
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\softokn3.chk
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\softokn3.chk

Also there is lot of .log files in C:\Windows\, and C:\Windows\System32\.

Note:I did not delete this files, i was only searching files from junk cleaner with search tool.
I did not found any more files, searched all from .tmp to .chklist (emergency setup)

Visual immprovenments:

3 Affect all parts of AU Integrator with change theme:registry compactor, wipe deleted file data, menu, options,
wizard, restore, etc...Change default white background with mild colors depending of theme color.
For example, pitch black theme - mild black background in menu,options,etc....

4 For compact view, and generaly better look.Great fit.
Move progress (scan) bar, between select drive section and help section, there is
a big unused gap there.(Picture is down)
...................................................................................
Immplementation:

5 Immplement registry finder in au.There is no point for this product to be separated from au.
This product has to be freeware, because it it basicly free windows regedit program.
There is no point for this program to be shareware.
In Miscellaneous section there is room for one more icon.Great fit.
.......................................................................................
Improving performance:

Every modern registry cleaner nowdays has acess to windows defragmenter and scan disk, in order to fully complete
system optimization.Registry clean and disk clean is not complete without disk optimize.

6 Add shortcuts in AU integrator, for windows defragment tool, as well as scan disc.Make
AU GUI for that, with progress (scan) bar.
This is future for AU, must happen sonner or later.

You can use the plugin maker to create a plugin that can handle deletions for 'Software distribution'.

For suggestion no. 2, I didn't totally understand what you meant. Are you saying Ace Utilities is deleting something it should not or did you mean it should include the listed files as well? If you want to add more files/filetypes, Options > Remove Junk Files > Add is the place to go.

For other points, well, we reserve the comments for a later date. :-\

Did not try the plugin maker yet, i will try it

For suggestion number 2 i thougt that should include the listed files as well, by default.

uzi69,

Suggestion no: 2

All .chk files are not 'scan disk recovered files'.
In fact, we have edb.chk, freebl3.chk, and softokn3.chk in our ignore list. That's why Ace is not finding them.
They are created by applications like Firefox, so we should not delete them.

Suggestion 6

Do you mean we should create a disk defragment tool ourselves ? Or that we should call the built-in Windows defrag tool ? :?
Defragmentation is better left to specialized programs, that's why we have not tried to create one.

hari,

What i meant is that you just add shortcut in AU Integrator for built-in Windows defrag tool, and that you make a progress
(scan) bar in AU integrator for viewing the whole process of built-in Windows defrag tool.
Or easier to say just make au interface for built-in Windows defrag tool, as well as scan disk.

Regards :)

Yes, I think so. But you have to reboot at least once to see if the files remain there.

Hari,
I delete it, and rebooted, tureg_old files are gone.

It is safe to delete, so you could add this paths to junk cleaner, and offcours test it couple
times for safety measures.I will also do that on my system

Aneesh,
I set the plugin maker to delete windows update backup files :)

Nice tool, it could be implemented in au

I'd be against this. Almost every single person I know who uses computers on a daily basis, myself included, simply do not use the default defrag tools. I myself use Defraggler. A checkdisk/scandisk link might be neat.

I would like to see a security/performance tweaker. Something along the lines of nCleaner or TuneXP, which have VERY handy registry tweaks/performance setting tweaks.

I use it every day, daily basis, all my friends use it to, on weekley basis :?
Win7 built-in defrag tool is far more advanced than freeware
you mentioned, as well as your 8 year old OS.
I assume that you have XP, because only ignoramus would use
mentioned freeware instead of top class built-in win7 defrag.

You have tweaker called Tweak'N tune,it fits your description

Prisoner416, did not meant to insult you.I apologize, for naming you ignoramus just because you dont use same software as i do.
I have my favorite tools, from my experience i can not agree with you that people "simply do not use the default defrag tools".
From Windows 98, built-in defrag tool, was every day optimize tool, for gamers like my friends an me.Can not forget endless Quake II nights, bugy OS,slow
pentium pc, and trying to pull maximum of pc with defrag tools, shuting down programs and services, tweaking whole system, etc...in order to gain just a
little bit of speed, there was no clocking then.
Ahhh, those were great times...

Regards!!!
