Understood Aneesh. Thanks for finding the actual issue. Unfortunately, my Vista laptop crashed yesterday, so I have no way of validating the workaround posted on the M$ website anytime soon (mainboard issue). Maybe someone else could duplicate the problem and see if the 'fix' works for them? I could always create a REG merge file prior to running AU when I want to work on mapped drives, then merge an undo file when I am finished.

I dont think that it is wise to do this reg hack within AU, as there are implications on setting the value, then having something happen to the PC before setting it back. Best to spread the word instead.

Since the issue is the dual logon through LSA with filtered admin rights, I wonder if the problem would show up on a non-admin-user? Also, can AU be "Run AS" the administrator user to get around this? Just thoughts...Maybe I will upgrade back to XP instead

I checked the workaround suggested in that article and it works. To avoid using the workaround, you can disable UAC for your user account, if you are comfortable with it. Or, you can run 'Find duplicate files' in a secondary user account. It should work that way.

I have Windows Vista 32-bit installed on my system. Each time I try to Wipe Recycle bin from context menu or from the main program I get the error.

Faulting application au.exe, version 5.1.0.462, time stamp 0x4a2869c1, faulting module WIPE.dll, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4a286957, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000221ac, process id 0x43d4, application start time 0x01c9feec2ee21f1e.

I am sending you an attachment with details.

We'll check it. Is the Recycle bin 'protected' by some program like Norton, etc?

We checked it with various Vista installations. So far, no errors. We'll continue testing.

I have uninstalled Ace Utilities 5.1.0 and installed System TuneUp v2.2. I tried Wipe option from Recycle bin and from program's 'Wipe Deleted File Data', It worked fine. Then I uninstalled System TuneUp and re-installed Ace Utilities version 5.1.0.463, same problem when I tried to wipe Recycle bin from context menu or from program's 'Wipe Deleted File Data'.

That's strange. By the way, what language do you use in Windows?

At present, there are some technical issues preventing us from testing software in Windows 7 x64-bit. :-\

So far, we were not able to simulate the issue with any of the Windows editions. :-\

Are you using v5.0 or v5.1 beta? There is a similar issue with 'Auto Start Manager' in v5.0. If you are using v5.0, install v5.1beta and see if the problem still exists.
