It does show the entry. Just make sure that you have set the 'Options > Clean System Registry > Scanning method' to 'Thorough'.siliconman01 wrote:Beta 5.1 does not pass the x64 compatibility test on this link below.

Yes, I understand that the above test claim is not totally valid. However, specific key is something that you may wish to include for x64 systems.

It is not showing it on Vista SP2 x64 Business. I have my Options set to Thorough and nothing in the Ignore list. And here is the test key.Aneesh wrote:It does show the entry. Value 0
Name: <NO NAME>
Type: REG_SZ
Data: "%ProgramFiles%\x64testa\x64testa.exe"
It will, however, detect it as:Key Name: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\x64testa.exe

Oh wait a minute. For %ProgramFiles%, it has to be entered as an Expandable Reg Sz in order to detect the error. That seems that it is pointing to a bug in the registry scanner. It does detect the invalid data of not having it entered as Expandable Reg Sz for %ProgramFiles%.Key Name: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\x64testa.exe

Re: Ace Utilities v5.1 Beta
The test value created by the program hosted at the site you mentioned in your previous post is detected by the 'Clean System Registry' tool. You can confirm it by downloading the program from that site and using it to create the entry.
If you are using expandable string/environment variables, then REG_EXPAND_SZ is the way to go. From Windows XP and upwards, expandable string type is being used extensively in the registry.
Now, coming to your observations:
In this case, you've set the type as REG_SZ and then you entered a expandable string as part of the value. Now, when the 'Clean System Registry' tool sees the value you created, how would it know that the data has to be expanded? Without expanding, how could the data string be interpreted as a path? Without confirming the data as a path, how could the validity of the path be checked? The only way to overcome this is to treat every REG_SZ entry 'suspiciously' and assume that it could be REG_EXPAND_SZ as well. That's quite a stretch, isn't it?
Food for thought: Shouldn't the creator, let it be a program or a user, take 'responsibility' for making sure that the entries created conform to a accepted convention/standard? :-\

Glad to see that Ace Utilities passes the test.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components
I have Windows Vista 32-bit installed on my system. I cleaned registry with your Ace Utilities Registry Cleaner with Advanced user option enabled and your program didn't find any obsolete entry in the section listed above then I cleaned registry with RegSeeker v1.55 it detected 275 obsolete entries in the section listed above.
Also please think adding Registry find option in your Ace Utilities version 5.1.
I am a registered user of your Registry TuneUp program. I like to know if I can upgrade to Ace Utilities version 5.0?
Thanks.

Different registry cleaning programs employ different scanning algorithms/logic and hence differ in their opinion about the validity of an key/entry/data/value.
For safety reasons, Ace Utilities employ a set of 'ignore-lists' so that our users don't accidentally remove entries which *may* cause errors later. We also have periodically added new entries to this ignore-list as per the feedback from our users. To live on the dangerous side, a user can choose to override these restrictions. You can go to 'Options > Clean System Registry' and make these changes, though they are only meant for advanced users with good knowledge about Windows, registry and troubleshooting. Running the 'Clean System Registry' tool in such an unrestricted fashion will show more entries.
To catch more results:
Go to Options > Clean System Registry:
* Set scanning method to 'Thorough'
* Enable 'Include all references to removable media'
* Enable 'Include all references to CD-drives
* Disbale 'Use Ignore list'
Note: If run in this fashion, users are strongly encouraged to go through the list presented after the scan and make sure that the entries to be deleted are not required. Even though users can always use the 'Restore' tool to undo the changes made, it may not help with every software which gets into trouble.

Another issue I like to bring in your attention. I was looking into Uninstall Manager with 'show Updates' enable...it still does not show all the updates that are available in Windows Programs and Features> View installed updates.

Re: Ace Utilities v5.1 Beta
I am trying to find duplicate files on a mapped drive (Z:), but it is not being presented as an option. Do I need to turn this on somewhere? I tried to include 'removable' drives under the misc setup section, but this did not make a difference. Running Vista. I have the 5.1.0/32 beta version.

Re: Ace Utilities v5.1 Beta
As I have mentioned you in my previous post in November 2008 regarding Ace Utilities V5.0.0 beta.
I have wiped Free Space with all the options enable.
Free disk space (checked)
Cluster tip area (checked)
Directory entries (checked)
After the task was completed when I restared my computer, Windows Vista color scheme (Windows Vista Aero) was lost.
I have tried Version 5.1.0 beta, and the issue is still there. If I don't choose 'Cluster tip area' when cleaning free space then everything is fine mean no damage to the Aero scheme.

Please think adding Regbak and registry find options in your Ace Utilities Version 5.1.0.

It may not be feasible to add these tools in v5.1. We'll try in the future versions.saad wrote:Please think adding Regbak and registry find options in your Ace Utilities Version 5.1.0.

Re: Ace Utilities v5.1 Beta
To resolve this issue, please read this Microsoft Help and Support topic: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937624billybob wrote:I am trying to find duplicate files on a mapped drive (Z:), but it is not being presented as an option. With "User Access Control (UAC)" enabled for your user account, Windows Vista may not show the mapped network drives. In order to resolve this, Microsoft has issued a workaround which can be found at the end of the topic mentioned above.
