problem after cleaning registry
problem after cleaning registry
After I used Ace utilities which worked great for making my system run smoother , I ran into the problem that AIM won't connect to the server. it says "Unable to connect" or something to the effect that it isn't hitting the server. Also, my newsgroup reader will not connect to the server anymore either. I tried reinstalling the programs, but it doesn't work. And I tried to restore the registry, but to no avail. Please Help!!!
Re: problem after cleaning registry
Hi,
Many third party programs may not create their Registry entries in a proper way making it hard for the Registry cleaner engine to determine their authenticity.
First of all, please check AIM or the news-group reader for any improper settings. If everything is in order there, try the following.
As you may know, Ace Utilities Registry cleaner creates backups for the entries it deletes from the Registry. Try merging the backup file it created back to the Windows Registry. See if this procedure fixes the problem.
If that doesn't work, go for a full registry restore. Use a backup created before the cleaning operation was performed.
If the problem is fixed, do the following:
Find a pattern, if any, from the deleted keys which should not have been deleted in the first place. Add that pattern in the 'Ignore List Manager'. This ensures that the future scans would avoid keys containing that pattern.
