Hi, when i launch the Auto Start module in Ace Utilities, i can select what user i want to adjust startup programs for. I only have one account active on my computer and that is "Administrator". although i have a drop down box which has Administrator and a user that is all ASCII extended characters. I am wondering if any one else is having this problem.
Iam running Windows XP SP2, with all the latest updates.
Thanks,
Mark Z

What?
z*****z
Can you be more specific?
Are you seeing the drop-down for the other user in the Ace Utilities GUI?
Or do you see it when you log on to Windows?
You might check,to see, if your correct Homepage is in Place..
Meanwhile update and run your Adware\Spyware and Anti-virus software-Full Scan-..
When did you first notice this ?

Ace Utilities Auto Start Issue
Hi, When i launch Auto-Start i can see my user Administrator, and then when i select the drop down box another user shows up that is all extended ASCII characters (smiley faces, black bars etc.) This has nothing to do with windows, i am seeing this completely in Ace Utilities.
I am confused about what you mean as far as a homepage??
I first noticed this when i updated Ace Utilities 3.0 since this is a new feature as of this version.
Thanks,
Mark Z

A couple of ideas
Hi Zi*****z
I cant explain this ofhand but it may be something not in action in my computer which is in yours..could be harmless or maybe not..
If you have a network admin..check with them...
The line you describe sounds vaguely like what appears in some versions of the klev virus..but I don't know for sure at all..
Hopefully someone will be able to easily answer this..It's got me curious..
I don't believe anything I suggest will do any harm...
I mentioned the homepage cause I have seen several browser hijackers lately..Run spyware/Adware..
Run a Full virus scan too..
Open auto-start and click "Options"..
Uncheck "Verify digital sig"if checked..
RestartSee if the mystery user is there..
If still there or(if verify is not checked)
uncheck"services(non-Microsoft)-restart check again..
one by one uncheck all the selections(scheduled tasks, logon) look for a change...
If nothing seems to clear up this question- open the auto start manager and in the file menu..select Report"..Send the report to Hari..
Good luck hope to learn what is the cause of this when you find out..

Re: Ace Utilities Auto Start Issue
Go to the 'Control Panel' -> 'Administrative Tools'. Double-click 'Computer Management'. Go to 'Local Users and Groups' -> 'Users'. All the user accounts in your XP system will be listed there. Check there. You can delete the troublesome account from here if you are sure that it is not in use.zilewicz wrote:Hi, when i launch the Auto Start module in Ace Utilities, i can select what user i want to adjust startup programs for.
