V3 here. Appears to be leaving fair number of entries for software long gone. None of the software is in the excluded folder items. Any assistance appreciated.
Hi Samdring, the only sure way to get all of the entries of uninstalled software removed from the registry is by using Registry Finder by Acelogix. http://www.acelogix.com/regfinder.html This is the app that I use whenever I uninstall a program to make sure all of it's registry entries are gone. I haven't use a registry cleaner yet that gets all of the entries after a program is uninstalled and there a valid reason why, which is the name that the program may be installed under by the developer and all of them don't use the same install procedure.

Thanks for the replies
The finder doesn't work unless you use it immediately after deleting software i.e. when you can remember what the software was. I seem to remember a regeditor that I used some time ago which produced a list of 'old' software which you could then look down and agree 'old' meant long gone and choose delete.
I am having to use regedit to identify no longer installed software and then ask 'finder' to show all instances.
Am I missing the point here?

You said, "Appears to be leaving fair number of entries for software long gone," so that means you remembered the names of the programs found in the scan, right? If you can look at registry entries found by the registry scan and know that you uninstalled that software sometime ago then you can use Registry Finder. I really don't understand what you mean.

Thanks for your help - I don't think I expressed my issue properly.
I had a 'beta' copy of some software which required the complete removal of previous version. I uninstalled the software and assumed that, having also cleaned registry with AU, I was safe to install latest version.
It did not work and using regedit, I noticed that registry entries for that uninstalled software still existed along with a host of others which I recognised as 'long gone'.
My second post was on the basis that, although reg finder works well, I have to go through every entry in regedit to identify the entries that are still there from old and uninstalled software and then use reg finder to completely remove them.
Am I still missing something obvious??

Hello
Sa*****g
Are you certain the new version of the software hasnt gone up to be a shareware with a 30 day trial? Or require a key to activate it ?
What happens when you install the new version,of the software in question, after you uninstall the old version using Add/Remove Programs and do a clean up with Ace?
What happens in this process?
Hey Cal!
Did we see issues with V3 before?

another idea
I believe there is a Windows XP service called "Remote Registry"..
I read it Can affect the Patch utility...Some programs require this service to operate..If V3 new version needs this- it is one possibility if you are on a network Admin..system and this is turned off for security consideration....
Just a shot in the dark for now..

Ok -ignore list makes no difference - had already tried that.
Examples of software uninstalled some time ago that are still shown under HKey, Current User, Software which AU does not recognise under scan, are:
DXO
Picajet
Opanda
Bitsoft
Cerious Software - Thumbs Plus
These are just a few entries picked very quickly

Samdring.. i also have a few entries there. For example i uninstalled resplendence registrar lite and used ace3 to clean up ,but still have resplendce folder and subfolders in current user.I do not think this is a fault though , because im also a registered user of jv16 power tools and RFA and they dont detect the entries either.I could be wrong but the reason i think they dont detect those entries is because they dont "point" somewhere else to a programe or file that is uninstalled therfore not brining up any errors. All they do is just take a few bytes up but are not errors in the registry or anything.Out of the Reg cleaners i have i prefer ACE because its a good and SAFE cleaner. To get rid easily of old entries like that though i would use the last freeware version of regcleaner (forerunner of jv16) as it has an "old" and "new" rating for all the software installed and registered to the registry ,and its easy to see what to take off.I use regcleaner just for that one option.

I would reiterate though that ace (imo) is one of if not the best cleaner and those entries are not really classed as erroneos.
