Version 3 problem

Hello..Ive been using v2.6 for a while now on my 98se system with no problems.However since i updated to 3 version , im getting an error that says...
AU
this programe has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down....


It then goes on to mention an invalid page fault in au.exe.
Ive tried in stalling over the top of 2.6 version and a fresh install (after uninstalling 2.6) but get the same eroor.It installs but as soon as i click an option to do a registry scan or junk file scan i get the error.Anyone know what might be causing it?
