Auto-start only opens directory, doesn't start application

Post by Lester40 » Mon Oct 24, 2005 7:51 pm

Hi, I have a particular application calle FileBox eXtender which provides easily-accessible shortcuts to files and folders on my Win XP system.

Although I have entered the command line in Ace Utilities' Auto Start menu, whenever I turn the PC on the only thing opened is the FileBox folder, and not the .exe file.

Any ideas as to how I can get this application to auto-start? I could of course do it through Windows Startup, but does kind of defeat the purpose of having bought Ace.

Have you selected the "Exact" exe. file? Some apps come with other exe. in their Dir folders that are not the main program!

Edit the command line so that the exe path is within quotes.

ex : "c:\program files\aa.exe"

Thanks for replying - that was the only .exe file in the directory and putting the command line in quotes didn't help.
I might have a look over at the FileBx help site.

Also, most programs when being configured a user can select it to start when Windows starts.

Filebx Q

Hello Ms****c
I got the trial/Demo copy of Filebx program..
If you have the lisenced version there may be some difference..

I noted when you run the command line in the Ace startup set;I get the nag window(buy,try,continue)..
That aside I believe the command is performing correctly..
The program puts its icon by the windows clock..When I click on the "continue" icon,on the nag-box,Access to the program seems to be as the programmer intended it to be..
I noticed you had renamed the default installation folder and experimented to see if that would make any difference in the command execution..In my case it made no difference..

If you are on a managed network;I believe it is possible that your "super-admin..could deny the running of executables while giving you general admin priveleges for other activites..
Since this seems to be a very powerfull program for the shell that is my guess....The unknown "EXE" is denied and the folder ,with the same name is opened..This could prevent unknown auto-exes' from running while still allowing you to use added program of known value..

"My face is my dis-claimer"

Hi

Enclose the command in quotes.

"C:\Program Files\FileBX 1 9 05\FileBx.exe"

(note the quotes at the beginning and end)

If this does not work, then find the short pathname of the folder using command prompt's dir command

(It will be something like C:\progra~1\FileBX~1\filebx.exe)
