History and junk files removal

Post by augieboo » Sun Feb 08, 2004 9:57 am

Hi,

Noticed that junk file remover still finds temp files in "document and settings\user\local settings\temp", even after a full history cleanup.
I think that history cleaner should remove all temp files found in those folders.

Thank you

This may be due to other apps placing files in that temp folder and when the apps are opened they create the same temp files again.

History and Junk file removal

Post by Aneesh » Mon Feb 09, 2004 9:35 am

Hi,

History-cleaner and Junk-file removal are different from each other. Junk file removal incorporates a different scanning process and has a different set of options including an 'Ignore list' parsing. But History cleaner dont use such criteria. So, cleaning History WONT remove the temp files on your PC (But, it can delete "empty folders in Temp" if you have set that option under the "Windows" tab).

So you have to use the "Remove Junk Files" to scan and delete such temp files; and use "Erase History" to clear your history cache, IE files etc.

I noticed that. In any case a single step "temp files / folders + recycle bin" removal would be preferable.

I really don't understand what you mean! There is already a two "Recylce Bin" funtions. One to empty the bin and one to wipe it. :?

Junk file removal, scans system to find specific files, a time consuming action if only want to erase temp files found in "local setting\temp" and "windows\temp" folders.
Now i have to do a triple action, erase history, search and remove junk files, and erase, not wipe, recycle bin.
Temp files, temp folders and recycle bin contents, all of them belong to what is calling history. IMHO, AU should clean all of them at once.

PS: Please excuse my poor English :)

Well, I understand what you're saying now, but it's not such a good idea to have the "Recycled Bin" emptied automatically as you suggest, simply because sometimes the user may want to check what ("Junk Files" in particular") are being deleted since some apps (Which are poorly written I might add) install files in these folders that shouldn't be deleted at all, and also place files there while in use and don’t remove them when they close! So, it’s rather a “Safety” issue not to automatically empty the "Recycled Bin." And yes, I know that files can be retrieved from the “Recycled Bin” within a certain amount of days, but all users may not “Know” this! So, again it’s a “Safety” issue which forces a user to deleted the contents of the “Recycled Bin” and while doing so seeing the “Confirm Multiple File Delete” dialog “Are you sure you want to delete these items?” to take a CLOSER LOOK before doing so.

I agree with that, but a user selectable option would be nice.
