different registry cleaner, different results

Post by jfcarbel » Sat Aug 13, 2005 3:25 pm

I have been trying different registry cleaners to see if I like the user interface, and how well the product works etc. After using three different softwares I get three different results. I unchecked all "ignore list" and checked "thorough scan" to compare apples to apples and found one software having 40+ invalid entries, another 5, and the other 120+/-. Why would this happen? And how can I be sure AU is doing a complete and thorough reg. scan?

Your software has the best interface, and easy to use. Also like the ID of registry listed at lower left of screen to help in the decission process of delete or save

The reason can be many.

Most regcleaners show many duplicate entries to make the user think they are finding more entries.

For example, all entries starting with 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT' and 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes' are the same. Most cleaners show both these entries instead of only one.

Some cleaners will show all the entries in a key, rather than just the key. That is, if you assume a key is like a folder, and an entry is like a file, instead of showing the folder as one entry, they will list each of the file as invalid.

There are other reasons too, and it is too technical.

Also, there is no definite way to scan the registry, each program has its own algorithm.
