Hi

I have just installed and tried ace utilities for the first time. I am impressed by its ease of use and your approach in giving a fully working copy for 30 day evaluation.

I have tried amny options for cleaning my system up and none realy seem to make much difference, I also use products such as Spybot search and destroy and adaware to try and keep my system protected.

If I purchase ACE utilities can I cease using Spybot , AdAaware Ashampoo Winoptimiser etc.

This is what I suggest, purchase Ace Utilities like you said and you will get "RegCompactor" FREE (Which will defrag the gaps in your registry after cleaning and make your system run even faster, especially XP)! Thanks, I actually have spyblaster as well as spybot.
I will purchase ace utilities as soon as I have satisfied myself it is useful.
I understand reading the forums that I can use it on all my home PCs.
On one of my machines after using it and then rebooting it took half an hour setting up the policy profiles before it suddenly burst into life

My old W2000 prof system is now taking ages to reboot (15-30 Mins)
it hangs on 'applying security policy' - this is only since using ace utilities.
The machine is severalyears olld (maybe as much as 5) it has a 120Gb hard disk with special drivers so I am reluctant to reinstall windows .

Is there some setting which makes it take so long, it is trying to connect to other m/c on network but passwords etc are not currently compatible.

after some time 15 mins it comes to login to windows with default usename but all greyed out, eventually it will connect but maybe not before I retire (for the night)

It sounds to me like the both of you have a LOT of "Start-Up" applications checked which slows Windows down considerably when "Booting UP! You have two options:

(1) Go Into Ace Utilities>Optimize>Auto-Start Manager and uncheck ALL of the those applications that don't need to start when Windows starts then click "Update" under "Action"!
(2) Click Start>Run type in msconfig and click OK on the last tab "Startup" and uncheck ALL of those applications that don't need to start when Windows starts.

The above configuration will make Windows Boot much faster!

since using ace my epson scanner smart panel will no longer work, when initiating it I get an error 'registry data read error'. I cannot find anywhere to undo whatever has been done, and as so much was done I am not sure I would have any idea of what to undo.[/quote]

Why don't you just go into the "Restore" feature of AU and restore ALL of the entries you deleted on that date???! You do know that AU backs up what is deleted after each registry scan?

For the time being I used the windows restore point to get things working again.

One problem - after doing a scan of the registry I get a list of items which are considered 'wrong' each with a tick against and then a window offering either delete all or cancel, there does not appear to be a way of unticking any particular items. Again the restore tool appears to restore everything rather than selected items.

I have found the ignore list, but not how to add items to it, it allows me to check/uncheck items already in it but I cant find a way of adding to it.

I have realised how to delete selected items, but still not how to tailor the ignore list , I see in the backup options that using zip backups allows selective restores, I assume that this is documented somewhere (RTFM)

Just use "Note Pad" and name it say GUEST.INI then just enter your list of apps! Make sure you put this file in Ace Utilities directory data>Ignore Reg.
