I have a question about compatability with exsisting software with simular functions.I am trying out ace utilities,I have not installed it yet,the question is: will this software create problems with system mechanic 4,I may replace sys,mech 4 with this utility if it works as well as I am told it does.thank you for any feedback on this question. curio

If you ever think Ace is conflicting with some similar software tell us ,here, and I'll try to reproduce your issue and see if we can tell what is what ..
So far I have found very little major problems with Ace in ANY environment..

I am sure Hari would be very interested in any true conflict..That's how great software gets better..

I'm about to replace Norton Sys Works with Ace Utilities. Any known/potential conflicts/problems that I should be aware of/watch out for as I uninstall NSW and install AU?

Hi, non at all! I am using Norton's "SystemWorks Pro 2003" and Ace Utilities and there's no conflict. In fact, I've un-installed Norton's at one time and kept using Ace Utilities and there were no problems.

Thanks Cal -- the only item that my pea brain could identify as a possible problem is the recycle bin since the NSW program grabs it and protects it. So this isn't a problem even if both are installed side-by-side ? I take it that the NSW uninstall satisfactorily 'releases' the bin back to Windows [I'm using Win 2000 Pro] -- I would prefer to use the recycle bin but would it be better to chose the back-up folder option for deleted files when I install AU?

I believe so, and here's why, when using the backup folder in AU you have total control over what's saved or not and the NSW recycle bin will save everything that's deleted of course, which amounts to loads of files taking up precious drive space and PC performance!

Before you uninstall Nortons You might goes to the setup, for Nortons System Works, and remove the switch(s) which give control of the Recycle bin to the Nortons Program..Restar and empty yhr recycle bin by the standard method..With Ace installed you can do a complete run ,of the Wizard,and use ACE to wipe the recycle bin from now on..
This is just an extra precaution which could'nt hurt..

Norton Systemworks is notoriously troublesome to uninstall.

Google for 'norton uninstall' for tips before uninstalling. You may need to download an uninstall utility from Norton/Symantec to completely uninstall.

After uninstall, check for residual running Norton/Symantec processes, such as Navprot. You may have to disable some residual Norton processes before removing them.

There was a time when the Norton Utilities was considered indispensable. Symantec has evolved their products into the 'bloatware' category - some would even apply the term 'malware'. It now takes 'advanced user' skills to diagnose/maintain/fix system malfunctions caused by these products.

The same 'creeping bloatware' evolution seems apparent with Acronis utility programs.

Three cheers for companies such as AceLogix and Terabyte for offering non-bloatware programs that work as advertised and are utterly reliable.

I tried to uninstall Norton from the usual method in Remove Programs and had a colosal (sp) Problem getting rid of it ....

The website (Symantec) has a utility designed to unistall this bloated software. I got lucky uninstalling everything after this episode......
