Computer Freezing after running AU

After I running AU my computer I always do a restart. When it boots up every thing is fine until my zone labs fire wall loads then everything freezes. After many times of doing this I have found that there is a problem with VSMON. How do I keep AU from removing what ever is causing this. I think the program is fantastic except for this problem. Please Help. I am running ME for an OS.
Thank you,
Ric

HI,

We will fix the problem asap. Please tell us which tool you suspect. Is it registry cleaner ? if so, please zip and send the folder ''My Documents\Ace Utilities Backups'' to me. You can email me by clicking 'Menu >Help > Email support ' from AU's main window.

meanwhile, we will try zonealarm and see if we can spot the error ourselves.

hi RicD13,

i checked it, and could not find anything suspicious related to VSMon.

Can you please explain how you found it was VSmon related ?

Also, which one of the following are you using ?
ZoneAlarm/ZoneAlarm pro/ZoneAlarm Security Suite

VSMON

Ric**etc..

I don't think this is an "Ace Utility" problem but ,rather,a Zone Alarm one..
When I used ZA 2.6 it worked fine..Used about 4%-5% Resource..After upgrading to the 3.** version the resourcee usage went up to 15%-20%..
This is way too much power for a Firewall to use...ZA2.6 doesnt cause this high usage of resource...I suspect this is when they started incorporating/upping the demands on "VSMON"....
As for the Banking sites being a problem... Since "VSMON" is a monitoring utility; This action may cause delays and/or loops ,of some kind, with the High security of the Banking sites Admin....There is also a virus associated with "VSMON" and Banking sites but I don't know much about that since Banks have something to do with money,I've heard...

To make a long boring story short and boring:I reccommend dumping Zone Alarm(free ver) and trying "Sygate" (free-personal) Firewall..
If you love ZA too much to drop it ty going retro to ZOne Alarm 2.6....

http://smb.sygate.com/support/documents/spf/default.htm

Zone Alarm is a great Firewall but I fear their newer versions cater to the
"Higher end massive processor/memory"Crowd..

With my old AMDk-6(500Mhz) 320RAM etc...The Sygate works very well and only uses 4%-5% Resource...

Computer Freezes @ Wizard Reboot

Have been using the 'try it' version for 8 days and really like the product so far. Have the Wizard set-up to clean Junk & History which I do at the end of any on-line session. When I try to do the reboot, everything freezes and any invocation of any program results in message "App failed to initialize because Win Station is shutting down" except that the desktop freezes and nothing else occurs. Doesn't seem to be any ZA conflict [this occurs if ZA is running or not]. Memory available at time reboot is attempted is in the 190 MB area -- running Win2000Pro/SP4 w/a 1.3 Pentium 4.

Appreciate any assistance.

Hi

Can you please let me know what are the applications that run in the system tray ? Some app might be preventing Windows from shutting down.

Hari -- I have 'Unplug/Eject Hardware; Volume Control; WinPoet [software for my DSL]; BO Clean & NS Clean [both from PrivacySoftware Corp.]; Zone Alarm and Norton AV' in the System Tray.
