Help - Wipe Free Space

Hello, I was using the Wipe Free Space feature on Ace Utilities v3.0. I was using the US DoD 5220.22-M (8-306./ E, C and E) (7 passes). Everything was going smoothly, except it was taking an extremely long time to run (respectively). I had left my computer with it running for 14 hours in which it had only accomplished 22%. Not a huge issue, I decided to cancel it. However upon cancelling, I actually have 2GB of space less than before I ran the program which apparently retrieves more free space in the end after actually removing deleted files. I assume the reason for this is because I cancelled it. How can I get that space back?
I did look for the temporary folders starting with ~WIPEFE in case that were the issue, but they were non-existant.
Thanks for your help.

Look for folders starting with the word "~WIPEFE.". Delete these folders to recover the space. The folders will be in the root of the drive you tried to clean.
Also, you can use the 'Disk Analysis' utility to see the space distribution of the drive and check which folders occupy how much size.

As I mentioned there was no folders starting with the word ~WIPEFE." I am running the Wipe Free Space feature again, this time just using 1 pass, in hopes that it will correct it's own issue. As it is running now, I see a ~WIPEFE folder, so I do know that I was not mistaking when I could not find one after I cancelled yesterday. Thanks.

Well, if you are sure that there are no temporary folders from the previous run of 'Wipe free space', then use the 'Disk Analysis' utility to see the space distribution of the drive and check which folders occupy how much size. Find out which folders take up unusually large space and then you can narrow in on the problem.

Thanks for your help Aneesh. Had I of not run the Wipe Free Space again already, I would have tried your method. However, letting it run this time around not only recovered my free space, but got back another 5GB on top of it.

Well, that's odd. How is it possible for get more free space than what you already had, unless you delete files ?
Anyway, it's good to know that your problem has been solved.

From the amount of free space you gained(5GB) it is probably normal that it took so long to run the wipe..If so'It won't take as long in the future..
However;
On some computers I have noted Ace taking a very long time to run or to wipe free space(even hanging on occassion)..
Often there is one or more very large Cd-burning image file(s) in temp folder(s)..When I wipe these image files independantly
(secure delete),first, Ace runs just fine the next time out..I am guessing this is not a bug in ACE but some combo of memory factors and/or processor speed..CRC?Threading? or something?
