My friend purchased ace utilities some tim back and ran it last ight. Apparently she ran the duplicate/empty file finder and managed to delete some components she needs for windows. Ace utilitiesa will not open now so she can't restore the files. We have found the back up file though. Is there a way to restore it manually without having to go through the actual program to do so?

Greetings Ag*************xas
If you can start up Windows try to do a system restore point-first.. copy the Ace backup files to a disk..
Re-install Ace and try to restore the backups..What is your operating system and particulars ,
Depends on what was knocked out in the dupe search cleaning..
If Windows starts there is good chance of recovery..

As Jazz has stated using the Windows System Restore feature, if you are using Windows XP or ME this can be accomplished and after doing so AU will be at a point when it was operating. I always suggest to any users to use a backup program just in case things like this happens. I currently use Ghost 9.0 which is much better than the System Restore feature in Windows. And if you are interested go here:

I guess the user used the Zip option to backup the deleted files in Duplicate finder tool.
If so, download the freeware 7-Zip (search using google).
Then, open the zip files using 7-Zip and look for the comment column for each file. This column shows the original path of the file.
