Can somebody tell me when and how often I should clean the registry? I was told by a friend to do it often (using this prog.) but every time I reset the computer I am still having the same problems with loading errors and such. Also, my recycle bin doesn't recover any files. When I accidentally delete it, it is automatically wiped pernamently off my computer. (yes, the bin is set to store deleted files on my disc). is this a problem with my registry? somebody please let me know.

Hey,
Well, the frequency of cleaning the Windows Registry varies with each user. If you are one among those users who often install and/or uninstall programs, handle a lot of files etc, you might want to run the Registry cleaner once every 2 days or so. Instead, you can set Ace Utilities to do a routine clean-up of the Registry. Refer 'Scheduled system maintenance' section in Ace Utilities.
What do you mean by 'reset'-ing the computer ? reset or restart ?
Cleaning the registry does not necessarily fix the registry. Loading errors can occur due to any number of reasons since when Windows boots up a lot of things are done. If there are too many errors and you are not able to fix it by yourself, then you should consult with your vendor. Perhaps a more experienced person can fix some of those problems, if not all. If the problem is specific to a program, then please consult its documention, both offline and online. If nothing works, I'm afraid you have to do a Windows re-installation or a fresh installation.
Now, the Recycle bin. Are you talking about deleting a file through Windows or deleting through Ace Utilities.
Do you currently have any "shredder" programs that might have hijacked recycle bin? like Norton Utilities? Even if you don't now, did you use to? cause they can leave a corrupted Recycle Bin.
Try toggling the tick mark for the 'confirmation' check box . Restart. Then recheck it again for permenant delete. Perhaps there is probably a 'stuck' registry key, regardless of what the check box says.
You can try deleting the Recycle Bin folder, but you have to boot from 'Windows Emergency boot disk/CD' to do that. Windows will create a new Recycle Bin for you later.
But, if you are talking about deleting files through Ace Utilities, then you might want to check the 'Options' for Ace Utilities.
