Problem with IE after running Clean Up

Hello,

I am experiencing a problem within Internet Explorer 6.0 ever since I did a Clean Up and Optimization with Ace a few days a go. I should mention that I have had this computer since 2001 and I have never experienced the problem before running the Clean Up and Optimization.

The problem is this: when I click on a link at a website or within an email a window pops up but the screen is blank. For example, if the link is to a section of a site within another site and there is a pop up I can't see anything. I tested this in Netscape and everything works perfectly in the same sites and links so the problem is in IE. I did not include Netscape in the Clean Up.

A very important point also is that when I click on a URL in an email and it doesn't work, if I paste it into thes earch engine (e.g. Google) then I can click on it and it opens but not from within an email

I am afraid something essential has been deleted. Now, everytime I want to view a link I have to switch from IE to Netscape.

I have a Windows 98 SE, Pentium 3 700hz with 448 ram.

I hope you can help.

Hi Peter

The first thing that I will suggest is to make sure that you have ALL of the "Windows Updates" for your OS. Click on Windows Update from your IE browser. Another thing you can do is totally delete your IE cache, also check your IE Internet Zone setting!

Try the following methods.

1) Re-Register some DLLs which IE uses :

Open a command prompt or use Start-Button -> Run.. to execute each of the below lines. (Note shell32.dll is only used in Win2k/XP)

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Ole32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Inseng.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Jscript.dll

2)If the problem is still not resolved, reinstall Internet Explorer. If you are using the version of Internet Explorer that is included with your operating system, reinstall or repair your operating system.

To reinstall, type the following string to the run command (XP only)
rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\ie.inf

Greetingss All
IE6.0 has a "fix" utility in "System Information...

Go; "Start/programs/accessories/system tools/System Information/Tools/Internet Explorer Repair Tool..............
This should re-register the DLLs' which may be missing..

If this does not fix the problem then Run Ace Utilities ,again, and use the restore function to put back everything Cleaned..

I will only make a guess that your long running system had many system files in the temp folders when cleaned..

The IE fix should fix it ,if so..

Whenever problems occur immediately after a reg/file cleaning;
Use the Restore function after a re-start......
Then re-start again.....

Good Luck
