Blue Screen from AU "Clean System Registry"

I just paid for my AU, and ran the "Clean System Registry" function twice, receiving the dreaded blue screen of death each time!

Microsoft says it's a driver problem, but I have not installed any hardware or new hardware drivers in at least a year, so I'm pretty sure it's not that.

I have installed new anti-virus software recently, and I understand that anti-virus software sometimes installs drivers, which can cause this problem. The problem is, I don't know how to figure out what part of the anti-virus suite is causing the problem, (assuming that it is).

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, the anti-virus I'm using is BitDefender, http://www.bitdefender.com

TIA,

augieboo

I assume that you're using Windows XP, and if so, have you disabled "System Restore" because some times this can be the cause of your particular problem. And if you have disabled System Restore enable it again and see what happens.

Hi augieB**
Try turning off your new AV scanner when you run ACE...It's preferable to turn off AV and Firewall programs whenever cleaning the Registry ..
I think some Avs' don't like anything that changes the Registry..
Win98 has a shutdown problem which I have seen cause a hangup when Ace restarts from the "Erase History" Cleanup...
