Ignore List Manager

Many ILM entries are wrong although I'm sure is not author's fault but people's who reported them.
For example many "Norton Internet Security" CLSID entries belong to Adobe Illustrator CS and have nothing to do with Norton IS.
Imho, you should revise most included/excluded entries.

hi Inray,

Are you sure? I am keen to know how you figured it.

Yes, we created some from users' report. Can you tell us which files you think are wrong ?

thanks

The following example has been tested on three computers where Norton IS never been used. All of them have Adobe CS installed.

All Ignore List entries disabled except NIS which remains enabled
Registry scan finish with no invalid keys
Disable NIS entry in ignore list
Registry scan returns six "invalid" HCR entries

Adobe.Ilustrator.dwg\CLSID....
Adobe.Ilustrator.dxf\CLSID....
Adobe.Ilustrator.pict\CLSID....
Plenoptic.Plenoptic\CLSID....
Plenoptic.Plenoptic.1\CLSID....

Maybe it's just a coincidence with similar keys but it happens.
Don't remember exact situation now, but i've found a few more Ignore List entries with similar behavior.

Also found a small glitch

Ignore list manager doesn't save checked entries correctly.
Actually it saves them between AU startups, but resets to "all checked" when it is opened from inside "clean reg" and then return to main window.

And a second minor omission
Search for invalid shortcuts doesn't sound when searching is finished.

I hope you fix them in AU next release, also adding small things like column size/sort save and the rest stuff :)

Thank you

Big ole Nortons

Inray....
Your comments make perfect sense..

Still:I would'nt find it hard to believe that Mr. Norton (somehow) had his finger in the Acrobat"pie"...I mean sometimes I think there may be traces of Nortos'(something or another) in the very static of the air around us...
:?: jazz.............

Inray,

I can't check it since I dont have Adobe CS. Can you give us the exact CLSID strings ? may be a common string exists between the two CLSIDs.

Actually we reset the ignore list checks on purpose. Sometimes a user may forget about the check marks, later install that particular app, and clean registry. This will result in the malfunctioning of the program and the user thinks AU has corrupted the registry.

We've already implemented 'sound' for shortcut cleaner and column size saving in the beta version.

Sorting after a scan like the previous sort position introduces a few second delay. Can you tell us the utilities for which you need this implemented ? I mean how do you sort after a scan ? Knowing how users sort will help us.

Hari,

About sorting, i think it necessary for file utilities only, for example junk remover, duplicates finder etc. Usually but not always, i order results by type.
On the other hand, column size saving is a must imho, for any AU list page.

AU with "Norton Internet Security" unchecked finds following registry branches as invalid...

Adobe.Illustrator.dwg {C0ED15F0-61BB-11d3-B6CA-00C04F6A0D06}
Adobe.Illustrator.dxf {C0ED15F0-61BB-11d3-B6CA-00C04F6A0D06}
Adobe.Illustrator.pict {C0ED15F0-61BB-11d3-B6CA-00C04F6A0D06}
Plenoptic.Plenoptic {607C27E9-AB27-11d3-A116-A0EA50C10801}
Plenoptic.Plenoptic.1 {607C27E9-AB27-11d3-A116-A0EA50C10801}

With "Norton Internet Security" checked it doesn't detect them as invalid.

I've already doublechecked it and it always happens on various different installations, although Norton Internet Security.dat doesn't contain such CLSID refference. Weird...

Btw, I've noticed similar issues with some other ILM settings, unfortunately don't remember now the exact situation.

Many Thanks Inray,

As i said, it was the common string -11D3- ; now I have corrected it.

May be within two days you can download a beta version.
