Blah Blah

Couple days ago I had problem deleting one file. I get message that file is probably in use by other person or process what is not true. I think that everybody sometimes have this problem. I have xp so I usually boot in a safe mode and login as administrator and then delete that file. But this time nothing didn't help. I tried do delete it with Ace Utilities - Securely Delete Files but I get similar message. Then I use Kaspersky antivirus and tried to put that file in the quarantine, it worked. Note that this file was not virus and that this problem you can have even with empty folder.

What's the point. This problem can be very annoying (I so it on many forums) so it would be a good thing that Ace Utilities can do same thing as kaspersky - to remove stubborn file.

Second thing is about reg cleaner and uninstaller manager.

I had invalid entry one program in the add/remove and two of that same program in the Ace Uninstall Manager. I removed entries in Ace uninstaller but that one in add/remove was left there. So I manually searched registry with the name of that program an under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\ I have found lot of keys and entries. I deleted manually a real big number of them but I think when I delete that ones under subkey "products" that entry in add/remove was removed.

Last thing, Ace Utilities is great program and only thing that "misses" is some defragmenter/optimizer.

Btw, what does that "Clear windows Swap file / Page file" in the History Eraser/Windows does? Can't find it in a help.

I really don't think so. Most defraggers found in such utilities, for example SysMechanic and others, are useless. Extremely slow, even dangerous sometimes, cannot compete dedicated defragment applications like PerfectDisk or DiskKeeper.
Including such a functionality into AceUtils, will make it just another bloated garbageware, like so many others.
I believe Ace should remain the snappy, light maintenance utility we all liked.

Sometimes too much can be added to an already great app and cause it to defeat it's MAIN purpose!!!

Hi, there

That thing with defrag tool isn't something that actually misses and I putted it in quotes. With that I was just comparing Ace Utilities with Norton's and that was kind of compliment.

Anyhow, since Ace already can remove locked files at boot (index.dat) can you add option to remove some locked file that user want. With that, user could remove some corrupted files which had become locked by some reason.

Second, Uninstall Manager doesn't remove invalid entries from add/remove in control panel,it just removes them from itself. This causes problems when you have to reinstall some program but it's not possible because that entry in registry. So I must go with regedit to that installer\products key (or something similar , I can't remember right now) and manually delete that product key.

And third, maybe exclude option for registry cleaner?

Cheers!

1. I'll let the author of Ace Utilities answer adding the manual removal of some locked file that user wants.

2. As for the uninstaller of Ace U it uses Windows uninstaller!

3. Excluding option for registry cleaner.... I don't understand what you mean!

Hi there and thanks for replay!

About Ace uninstaller:
You know that after you uninstall some program it can happened that entry is still left in add/remove programs in control panel pointing to that non-existing program. In such case you can have problem if you try to reinstall same program again because installer will think that program is installed and it will refuse to continue installation process (I have such issue with Sun Java VM, Trend Micro antivirus and couple more programs).
In this case, Ace uninstaller gives to user one very nice option; to remove that invalid entry from registry (and by that automatically from add/remove programs). But this tweak sometimes works and sometimes don't. I believe this is the reason:

When program is installed , he adds his subkey (with some info, program path etc...) to this key in registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
At this place I can find all my programs which I have installed on my machine.

But sometimes (maybe when it uses windows install shield, I don't know), it also adds subkeys to this keys
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products
For example, I can find Adobe Reader and MS Office 2003 there.

Now, if you uninstall program and entry is left at those places, you can have problems installing same program again. As I sad before, Ace gives option to remove invalid entries, but I think that Ace just looks at that first key and deletes invalid subkey. By that, entry in add/remove programs is not removed (it actually just removed "Change" and "Remove" buttons but entry is left) because under other two keys you can find that program key. To complete task you have to delete it manually.

I was just wondering if Ace could be able to do that?

Well, that's all. Thanks for answering to my post and for considering "deleting locked file" idea. About that regedit exclude, forget it. I'm little tired of writing this post ( I believe that you are too :) ) so stay the best! Se ya!
