Registry Compactor Beta

Post by hari » Wed Dec 31, 2003 8:53 am

Hi All,

Expert users can beta test our new Registry Defragmenter and Compactor. Here is a small description of what it does:

The Windows registry grows as data is added to it, but it never shrinks when data is removed. A bloated registry with a lot of empty space in it can slow down boot time as well as performance as a whole. Registry Defrag and Compactor will rebuild and re-index your registry to eliminate structural mistakes and corruption. The advantages are :-

- Repair of defects by building a fresh registry
- Remove fragmentation with a linear and sequential registry
- Compact registry by removing gaps and unused space
- Improve system performance due to faster registry load/read
- Protect privacy by erasing previously deleted registry cells

You can download the program from
http://www.acelogix.com/downloads/rc.exe

It will work on Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP.

Warning: users testing this should first backup their registry. Since this is in the beta stage, your registry may get corrupted. You may not be able to boot to windows and may need a registry restore.

Let us know the results.
regards,
Hari, Acelogix Team

I've tried this registry compactor and this latest version works flawlessly on my Windows 98, XP Pro, and XP Home systems!!! It will even get rid of the added files that Windows adds when it reboots, just open RC and click "Cancel." To check this all you have to do after rebooting from RC is run "Ace Utilities" Remove Junk Files and you'll see all of those files that Windows creates, then open RC and click "Cancel" that's it!

Keep up the great work Hari!!

Cal

I just purchased Ace Utilities and was wandering around the board. I was wondering what the plans were for the registry compactor once it's out of beta. Will it be included as a part of Ace Utilities in a future release, or be a standalone product as freeware or shareware?

hi,

Its already out of beta stage. We may not make it a freeware or independent app, might add it to AU.

Well, I know one thing what ever you and Aneesh decide to do concerning "RegCompactor" whether to incorporate it into AU (And make the ratings go through the roof) or Standalone and users find out the same it's a monster of a utility!!! :P

Reg Compactor

Post by jazzbodepew » Wed Feb 11, 2004 4:37 pm

I notice how the Registry compactor makes an appreciable difference in use with the WinXP Registry..On Win98 I use the Scanreg/opt function and, hence, don't see any further compaction with the utility..

:?: Hari, could you explain a little how this(rc) process is similar and different from the Scanreg/opt switch?

Is it also removing the free space and slack from the XP reg ,as well?

Reg Compactor

Post by Aneesh » Wed Feb 11, 2004 6:55 pm

Hi,

Yes Jazz, the result of registry compaction in Win98/ME is almost same as the scanreg/opt or scanreg/fix. We can only guess about the Microsoft codes. :P

Yeh, the space and slack are removed while compacting Registry for all Windows versions.

Hari,

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the reg compactor and it did make quite a difference in the file size. 'Course I imaged my hard drive prior to trying it out - can't be too cautious. I should have said it before, but Ace Utilities is a great collection. I've used JV16 power tools, EZ Cleaner and others. I liked Power Tools a lot. Ace is a least as good, and in my opinion better - great job.

FWIW, I agree with Cal, the reg compactor would make a great addition in the next version of Ace Utilities.

Thanks again,
Jim L
